Peter Black

2011 Scott R.H. Smith Memorial Award for Outstanding Alumni

Graduate of Georgetown Prep, Class of 2005

Played for Brian Maloney (and nominated by Brian)

Highlights of his career in hockey included Runner up in the Purple Puck his freshman season.  Followed by an IAC Championship later in his freshman year.

His senior year the team also were runner-ups in the Purple Puck and advanced to the quarter finals of the MAPHL to finish out his career.

Best highlight:  Playing at Rockville to a capacity crowd against Landon

Undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in International Economics.

Took Mandarin Chinese while attending Georgetown and was able to study in China for a semester.  Played Club Hockey at Georgetown and played their home games right at Cabin John arena.

Currently resides on the west coast working for Wells Fargo Bank in their Global Banking division working on international expansion for the bank.

Kathy and Phil O’Donoghue

2011 Scott R.H. Smith Award for Outstanding contributions to the Ice Hockey Program.

The O’Donoghues have been long time supporters of the Prep Hockey Program and describe the program as “special” and “a close knit family”.  They felt there are far worthier volunteers that deserve this award.  Mr. O’Donoghue dedicated this award to all the Prep Hockey Parents that are involved in the program.  Being a “hockey parent” usually involves early practices, waiting/sitting in cold ice rinks (sometimes outside), long drives to away games, expensive equipment that is frequently outgrown, and helping with scoresheets, scoreboards, penalty box, and fund raising.

They have two sons, Phillip and John, that attended and played hockey for Georgetown Prep.  Phillip played from 1998 to 2002 and played for Kevin Charles and Brian Maloney.  John played from 2003 through 2007 and played for Coach Maloney.  The O’Donoghues worked with Mr. Peter Black (father), Bob Kemp, John Hyland, Mr. Plamondon (Senior) and Scott Smith “doing whatever was required at the moment”.  The O’Donoghues are also friends of the Smith family and have watched both Matt and Kenny grow up.  The O’Donoghues still annually support the hockey program and as usual donated the wine for this evening’s dinner.

2011 Alumni Game – Thanks to the Organizers and Participants

Sean McDonald (Michael ’12), has organized this game for the past 3 years.  Imagine the challenge of reaching out to 20 years of Prep Alumni to get them to come back to the game, getting the ice, refs, dinner, jerseys, rosters, awards, etc., etc.  It is a huge undertaking.  Please show your appreciation to Sean and his family if you get a chance.
