The Outstanding Alumni Award is selected by past recipients of the Outstanding Alumni Award. This year, the award was named in honor of Bob Kemp, who raised four Prep Alumni among his seven children. Three of his sons, C.J., Joey, and John, played hockey (and lacrosse and football) for Prep and were selected to receive the award this year.
C.J. Kemp ‘99
C.J. Kemp was an 11 time Varsity Letter Winner at Georgetown Prep between 1995 – 1999 and 3 sport (Football, Hockey, and Lacrosse) captain his senior year. His hockey career helped lay the foundation for the success and growth of the program. C.J. played lacrosse at Fairfield University where he was the school’s first ever lacrosse All-American. He graduated in 2003. After graduation, C.J. returned to coach the Freshmen and JV Georgetown Prep Lacrosse Teams of who won the title multiple times. C.J. has followed his father’s footsteps into the mortgage business, as he is mortgage banker at SunTrust Bank. He resides in Darnestown, MD with his wife Loren and two girls Charlotte and Laney.
Joey Kemp ‘04
While at Georgetown Prep, Joey was a 3-sport athlete earning over 10 varsity letters across football, hockey, and lacrosse. He captained the hockey and lacrosse teams as a senior. He was named to the All-IAC team and earned honorable mention All-Met honors following his final hockey season. His junior year hockey campaign was highlighted by Prep being crowned – for the first time – the champion of the Purple Puck tournament. As a sophomore, Joey was part of the hockey program’s first IAC championship team. Following his time at Prep, he went on to play lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame where he was awarded All-America honors three times. After graduation, Joey played professional lacrosse in the MLL for 4 years. He has returned to the DC area where works as an investment banker. He remains involved in the Georgetown Prep community through various capacities. Additionally, Joey serves on the board of the Bob Kemp Lacrosse Classic, which sponsors a student’s annual tuition at Washington Jesuit School. Joey lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife Beth who is expecting their first child.
John Kemp ‘09
While at Georgetown Prep, John earned 8 varsity letters while playing hockey and lacrosse — serving as captain of both teams as a senior. John was part of the 2005 and 2008 IAC championship teams as well as the 2007 Purple Puck Championship team. Following graduation at Prep, John attended the University of Notre Dame where he played lacrosse and earned All-America honors three times. Following his time at Notre Dame, John played professional lacrosse for the Rochester Rattlers for two years. John currently works in investment banking in DC. Since his return home, he has remained closely involved with Prep athletics, namely serving as a coach for the lacrosse program during the summer. John serves on the board of the Bob Kemp Lacrosse Classic, which sponsors a student’s annual tuition at the Washington Jesuit Academy. John currently lives in Potomac, MD and is set to get married to his fiancé Jessie this coming June.
