Coming off a 4-4 draw against Landon the previous day, the squad took the ice to face the Bullis Bulldogs on Wednesday, December 3rd. Pushing through the pain and fatigue brought on by the battle with the bears, Prep prevailed and took home the season’s second win by a score of 6-3.
The Hoyas’ first goal came late in the first period by captain Jack Olson from Johnny Mac Mulera on a power play after a bulldog got sent to the box for hooking. During an otherwise uneventful second period, Max Newnam found the net with an assist from Jack Olson and Johnny Mac did the same all on his own. Prep’s shutout finally ended about two minutes into the third period when the Bulldogs finally found some net of their own, which the Hoyas answered only seven seconds later, extending the lead to 4 goals to 1. Before the final horn sounded, both teams would score two more times each, with Prep’s being scored by Blaine Green with assists from Jack Olson and Max Newnam and another by freshman Daniel Cole, assisted by David Stanislav. Final Score: Prep 6, Bullis 3.
Although a win is always a win, this one did not come without consequences. As senior captain Joey Altemus sat out with a concussion and Jin Kim missed the game to an injured elbow, sophomore Tom Olson, Jack’s younger brother, suffered a season-ending re-break of his collarbone. We wish him, as well as senior netminder Dillon Nobel who suffered a complicated broken finger with a ruptured tendon that also put an untimely end to his season, speedy and successful recoveries.
Next up on Friday the Hoyas will cap off a 3 game week with a rivalry match against the Gonzaga Eagles. On Monday we face St. Stephen’s St. Agnes and on Thursday St. Alban’s. Hoya Saxa! Go Prep!
